Timeline

How long local SEO really takes, month by month

"How long before my phone rings?" You deserve a real answer, not a shrug.

You asked the only question that actually matters.

"How long before my phone starts ringing?"

And whoever you asked got vague on you.

Three to six months. Depends. Every business is different.

You've got a crew to pay on Friday. Vague doesn't pay them.

Here's the real reason you got that answer: nobody wants to be held to a date.

We'd rather hand you the calendar.

Not a promise — a calendar. What happens each month, and what should worry you if it doesn't.

Here's what's in this one:

  • What month one really looks like
  • When the first calls show up, and where they come from
  • Why rankings move last instead of first
  • What speeds the clock up, and what stalls it
  • What to check on day 90 before you decide anything

Let's go.

Month One: Nothing Ranks Yet

Month one is plumbing. Not results.

Picture a roofing contractor in Cypress who started last week.

His Google Business Profile gets claimed, verified and filled out for real. Categories, service area, hours, every service he sells.

Twenty photos of actual jobs go up. Not stock. His trucks, his crew, his finished roofs.

His site goes live with a tap-to-call button and a page for each service.

Then Google has to go read all of it. That takes days. Sometimes weeks.

By day 30 you should have a finished profile, a live site, and a way to know who called.

What you shouldn't expect is a ranking change.

It's too early. Anyone showing you one in month one is showing you noise.

Months Two and Three: The First Calls

This is the part people get wrong.

Your first calls almost never come from ranking number one.

They come from the profile.

Somebody searches at nine at night, sees a complete listing with recent photos, and taps call.

That happens before you outrank anybody.

Reviews start stacking here too — but only if you're asking.

Same day, every job, no exceptions.

Ten honest reviews in sixty days will move you more than any keyword.

By the end of month three, our roofer should be able to point at a few jobs and say Google sent those.

Not a flood. A trickle you can name.

If month three ends at zero, that's a conversation — not a wait.

Nine times out of ten it's the phone or the reviews, not the rankings.

Months Four to Six: Rankings Finally Move

Rankings are the lagging indicator. Always.

Google wants to see consistency before it puts you in front of its users.

Steady reviews. Fresh photos. A site that loads fast and doesn't change its address every month.

That pattern takes a few months to prove.

MONTH 1 Setup Profile, photos, site live No calls yet MONTHS 2–3 First calls Reviews stack up, profile gets found A few calls MONTHS 4–6 Rankings move You show up in the map pack Steady calls MONTH 7+ Compounding Same cost, more calls Still growing
The usual shape of the first year. Yours moves faster or slower depending on reviews and how fast you answer.

This is also where the math flips on you — in a good way.

Month one costs the same as month twelve. Month twelve brings a lot more calls.

That's the whole argument for owning your presence instead of renting leads.

What Speeds It Up, What Stalls It

Two contractors start the same month.

One is booked out by spring. The other is still waiting.

The difference is almost never the agency.

What happensWhat it does to the clock
You ask for a review the same day, every jobPulls the first calls into month two
You answer the phone, every timeTurns every ranking gain into money
You send new job photos weeklySpeeds up the map pack
You wait for reviews to show up on their ownAdds two to three months
Calls go to voicemailNothing else on this list matters
You change your business name or address midwayResets the clock

Read that table one more time.

Four of those six are things only you can do.

Three Myths About the Timeline

"Ninety days and I'll be number one."

No. Ninety days is when you should have proof it's working — not a trophy.

Proof looks like calls, reviews, and a profile getting more views than it did in June.

"If it's not working in a month, it's not working."

Month one has almost nothing to measure.

Judging it then is like judging a roof by the delivery truck.

"Ads are instant, so I'll skip the rest."

Ads are instant. They're also instantly gone the day you stop paying.

Run both if you can afford it. Just know which one you still own in year two.

Your First 90 Days

Here's what to hold anybody accountable to. Us included.

  • Day 1–30: profile claimed, verified and fully filled out. Twenty real photos. Site live with a tap-to-call button.
  • Day 1–30: one way to track calls — even if it's a notebook on the truck seat.
  • Day 30–60: a review request going out the same day every job ends. Written into the routine, not left to memory.
  • Day 30–60: your first calls named. You should be able to say which jobs came from Google.
  • Day 60–90: photos posted weekly, ten or more new reviews, profile views trending up.
  • Day 90: sit down with the numbers. Calls, jobs closed, cost per job. Then decide with data instead of a feeling.

One more thing, since you're already doing the math.

Our guarantee is ninety days. If the calls don't come, you cancel and keep the site.

We put a date on it because we'd rather be judged than vague.

Want to see where your ninety days would start?

We'll look at your Google presence and tell you straight — what's missing, what your competitors already have, and what month one would fix. No charge.

Tiempos

Vamos.

Mes Uno: Todavía No Rankeas

El primer mes es plomería. No resultados.

A veces semanas.

Meses Dos y Tres: Las Primeras Llamadas

Vuelve a leer esa tabla.

  • Día 1–30: perfil reclamado, verificado y lleno completo. Veinte fotos reales.
