Bilingual Websites, English & Spanish
Around 40% of Harris County speaks Spanish at home. Most local business websites are English only, and the ones that aren't were run through Google Translate.
Written in both languages, not translated between them
each version says the thing the way that audience says it
A language switch that stays put
one tap, and it remembers — not a dropdown that resets on every page
Both versions visible to Google
with the markup that tells it these are language versions of the same page, not duplicates
Forms, buttons and errors in both
the detail everyone forgets, and the one that breaks trust at the worst moment
Phone and contact handling that's honest
if nobody answers in Spanish, the site shouldn't imply otherwise; we build the version that tells the truth
Spanish keyword research done separately
because it is a different set of searches, not the same searches in another language

Translated is not the same as written
Machine translation produces sentences that are technically correct and immediately recognizable as machine translation. A Spanish-speaking customer reads it, understands that nobody at the business actually speaks Spanish, and calls someone who does.
There's a second problem that matters more for being found: automatic translation doesn't translate the search. People don't look for "servicios de plomerÃa" because a translator produced that phrase — they look for whatever they actually say, which varies by country and by neighborhood. Getting found in Spanish means writing for the words people use, not the words a dictionary prefers.

Why we can actually do this
Klik is run bilingually. This site you're reading has a Spanish version because we built the system for it, not because we bought a plugin. The same system goes on your site.
That's also why we're careful about what a bilingual site should promise. If your business can serve Spanish-speaking customers properly, the site should say so clearly and in their language. If you can handle it by text and email but not by phone, the site should route them that way rather than putting a phone number in front of a conversation nobody can have. A bilingual site that generates calls you can't take is worse than an English-only one.
Bilingual Website
Who this is for
Any business in the Houston area whose customers aren't all English speakers, which is most of them. It matters most for trades, clinics, salons, restaurants, insurance, auto services and anything where the customer needs to explain a situation and be understood.
It also matters if you're competing against businesses that are already bilingual. In a lot of local markets around Houston, the Spanish side of the search has noticeably less competition than the English side — the same work goes further there.
